History of Unity of Davis

In 2006, Reverends Larry and Denese Schellink had the idea of pioneering a Unity Church in the greater Sacramento area. With a committed group of Unity friends, a steering committee was formed, and ultimately Unity Center of Davis (UCOD) was conceived.

In May 2007, Rev. Larry Schellink held the first service at the Davis Veteran’s Memorial.

Initially congregants came from Sacramento and by the end of the first year, Rev. Denese Schellink joined as a co-minister. Services then moved to the historic Varsity Theater in downtown Davis and became enlivened with a spirited youth group participating in songs and creative presentations. Thereafter services were held at the Veteran’s Memorial and more recently at the Davis Senior Center where UCOD continued to sponsor spiritually inspired movies, music, classes, workshops, and speakers. After seven years of creating a loving spiritual community Rev. Larry Schellink had the opportunity to move to a large Unity Church as Senior Minister.

In May 2014, Rev. Robyn Plante joined UCOD. She built and strengthened our community with inspired messages, personal connections, and creative programs. In June 2018, she heeded an inner call to move closer to family and explore ongoing spiritual development.

In April 2019, Rev. Kathryn Brenson became the Senior Minister for UCOD. She brought a personal and loving ministry to our congregation. With great sadness and loss for our congregation, Rev. Kathryn made her transition due to a serious illness in July 2019.

After a national search, Rev. Richard Carlini joined us as Senior Minister in April 2020. Rev. Rich quickly moved our services online to Zoom as the pandemic ensued and has continued. Rev. Richard has created a vibrant virtual community focusing on connectivity and sustainability. He has brought a wealth of classes, workshops, and resources to our spiritual community and continues to lead us with his vision and wisdom.

In 2024 Unity Center of Davis changed its name, dropping the ‘Center’, as a virtual ministry that now has members from across the US attending.
